Representative Experience

• Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) – Overturning a $10 Million Jury Verdict on Appeal. Meyers Nave was brought in on appeal by LACCD in a high-value employment case and successfully overturned a massive $10 million emotional distress jury verdict rendered against LACCD. The California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District reversed on the grounds of judicial misconduct that occurred both during the trial and in the post-trial proceedings as well as based on the erroneous admission of prejudicial information. Amanda is assisting in representing LACCD through re-trial. The published ruling states: “It seems clear the judge’s rulings were motivated by personal opinions untethered to the rules of evidence. Whatever his motivations may have been, the judge admitted inflammatory evidence without consideration of the evidentiary rules, with undeniable prejudicial effect, thus preventing a fair trial.” (Odom v. Los Angeles Community College Dist. (Apr. 7, 2025, B327997) [cert. for pub.]). Amanda is also on the Meyers Nave team that was simultaneously retained to handle three other well publicized matters brought against LACCD for harassment and retaliation, which are being prosecuted by high-profile plaintiff’s firms.
• San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) – Front-Page Win on Summary Judgment involving Public Official. Amanda is assisting MTS in multiple matters, including recently assisting in winning a motion for summary judgment (MSJ) in the front-page lawsuit, Figueroa v. MTS, involving a former employee who sued MTS and Nathan Fletcher, the former Chair of the Board, for harassment and retaliation. The case has garnered significant media attention and television coverage and involved complex electronic discovery into social media and text messages. The significance of this win and the MSJ strategy involved underscore Meyers Nave’s ability to manage the most high-profile and strategically imperative disputes. Amanda is also assisting in another case, Outlaw v. MTS, where MTS’s former Chief Information Officer is suing for retaliation related to her role in the discovery of the Figueroa matter. The Outlaw case is active and a motion for summary judgment is pending.
